‘Ovгор’ premiere draws more than 1,000 viewers and artists, with Korean stars in attendance
Set at a timber plant in Selenge Province, the crime adventure explores friendship, humanity and life-changing choices.

ULAANBAATAR — More than 1,000 viewers, filmmakers and representatives of Mongolia’s arts and cultural community attended the premiere of ‘Ovгор’, a feature film about life in Mongolia in the 1980s, male friendship, humanity and the choices people make.
Produced by Khanhuur Pictures, the film premiered on October 7 at The Corporate Hotel and Convention Centre. Alongside Mongolian artists, renowned South Korean actor Son Dong-il and Choi Si-won, a member of Super Junior and an actor, attended the event.
Bringing 1980s Mongolia to the screen
Set at a timber plant in Selenge Province in the 1980s, ‘Ovгор’ explores human relationships, friendship, responsibility and questions of humanity amid crime, conflict and violence. Combining adventure, crime and action, the film aims to bring the daily life and social atmosphere of Mongolia’s past to contemporary audiences.
The cast includes well-known figures from Mongolia’s stage and screen, including State Honored Artists S. Bold-Erdene, S. Ariunbyamba and Ts. Tserenbold, as well as actor G. Erkhembayar.
The film’s promotional campaign highlights the message, “Strength begins with humanity,” reflecting the central themes of the story and the choices faced by its characters.
South Korean artists attend premiere
The participation of South Korean artists was one of the highlights of the premiere. Son Dong-il and Choi Si-won met with the Mongolian film crew and congratulated the filmmakers, local media reported. Domestic media also reported that Choi Si-won had expressed his willingness to help promote the film internationally.
The attendance of internationally known actors at the premiere marked a notable development for Mongolia’s film industry, drawing attention to opportunities to connect domestic cinema with international artists and expand future cooperation.

Film opens in cinemas
‘Ovгор’ began screening in Mongolian cinemas on October 8. Tengis Cinema lists the feature under the crime, adventure and action genres.
The large turnout of viewers and filmmakers at the premiere indicates that the film attracted public attention in its opening days. However, no verified figures on total ticket sales or revenue, or confirmed plans for an international release, have yet been made public.
