Building on fire

ULAANBAATAR — A fire broke out on the roof of a building under construction in Mongolia’s capital, and emergency responders safely evacuated three workers from inside. The blaze was fully extinguished on the morning of October 10, while authorities continue to investigate its cause and circumstances.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency, a call reporting the fire at a building east of Olympic Bridge in the first khoroo of Sükhbaatar District was received at 11:48 p.m. on October 9. When emergency personnel arrived, insulation on the roof of the building under construction was burning.

More than 60 personnel from six of the capital’s fire and rescue units, along with around 20 vehicles and pieces of equipment, took part in the firefighting operation. The fire was brought under control at 12:10 a.m. on October 10 and fully extinguished at 4:41 a.m.

The National Emergency Management Agency said three workers inside the building were safely evacuated during the rescue operation.

No final determination has yet been made regarding the cause of the fire, whether the building met fire-safety requirements, or the value of the property damage. Relevant authorities are working to establish the cause and circumstances of the incident.
